He calls himself uneducated, but gives better answers than most „educated“ people. Education does not define wisdom and intelligence. This man clearly is intelligent and I‘m happy that he found his way in life!

I had same thought as him when I went to Singapore from Malaysia 12 years back for work, I earned more money but it doesn't make me feel better and happier, even I can buy myself some luxury goods and good food, but I still feel empty deep in my heart, I feel miserable and then I almost sick once for every month. But because my family had a financial issue I try my best to sustain, after 2 years I have decided to go back to my home country which is Malaysia, from that time onwards, I found my very own happiness as a minimalist, I am still practicing it until now, the best part is I found my inner peace, I don't have to be somebody else, I just follow my own path. Inner peace for me is priceless. 😄 I hope everyone can feel it too in one day.

I find it is such a privilege to be in his position, with rich land, plenty of fresh water and ideal conditions for farming. If you are born penniless in a land with limited resources or natural disasters, there is not much you can do. Studying hard to be employed would be the best future one can have. Everybody talking about moving but it is never really an option. Land and water are resources too. Which countries would be so generous to share their resources with every outsider walking in? Sadly, the life he described is completely out of reach for many.

@Danaio Salva He is in no doubt both intelligent and wise. Its pretty simple as he explains it. He is a farmer from start travelling to the big city, he dont like what he sees so he comes back home with all his lessons. All books according to The heroes Journey arrives at this statement. The philosophical question is. "If he didn´t go to the city would he be depressed because he thought there was a better life than the farm"

Great lecture. I keep thinking about how we enter into this vicious circle of maximizing everything in our lives. Somehow, we are being taught that getting more is always the best choice. Still, our education makes us incapable of seeing how all the sacrifices we do, make us get less too (time, fun, friends, etc).

This talk really resonated with me and I am sure with many many others. Such truth and wisdom. For many , it is not possible to change each of our unique situation overnight, but awareness is a start and hence, whatever we are doing or working on today, let us be mindful of what are our intentions ... if the hardwork allows us to fulfill a purpose we believe in, that is really ok ... but if we blindly chase the dreams of success as what society tells us, thus making life complicated and losing our centre ... then we really should ask ourselves, is that what we want? no right and wrong. just be mindful why we do what we do. 🙂
    God bless !

I am enrolled in college right now for English with a focus on creative writing. I started out in mechanical engineering but realized that it was going to be too much for my soul to handle. The jobs were going to be stressful, and eventually I would be unfulfilled. Even though I am studying something that I love right now, going to college feels horrible. I can't fully enjoy it and I just feel like I am preparing myself for a very stressful life ahead, trying to create things so that I can afford to live, having to gain a reputation for myself so that my works can get sold in the first place and so on. I've always dreamt of "returning to monkey." Returning back to our basic roots like this man was talking about, but I have pushed that off as just a dream. The stress I feel from the uncertainty surrounding leaving university to go do something else is a lot to bear, but at the same time I do not feel right in this world. I do not feel right in the capitalistic grind of America, surrounded by countless others all trying to do the same thing. The harder I try to study and accept this grind, and the American way of life, the farther I get from myself and I feel it. I don't really know who I am anymore. I don't know what I want anymore. Life just feels like a fever dream where I need to keep grinding, and keep pushing until one day I'll be happy with my career. But maybe this is wrong. Maybe I need to listen to the stress that is trying to tell me to go, but I have no idea of where to start or what to do. Our country doesn't talk about this. It only pumps more kids out, immediately indoctrinates them to the capitalistic society, and sends them off to make money for the state out of fear of falling behind others and failing. Where has life gone. What have we done. It feels horrible. Our drive to continuously create new things, grow as a society, and advance technologically has seemed to only create more issues for everyone. My generation is riddled with mental illness. If you meet someone and they say that they aren't struggling with any mental illness such as chronic depression, anxiety, OCD, etc. is either lying, or just lacks the introspection needed to spot such an issue. Maybe life isn't a problem to be solved, isn't something to try to find the perfect solution for. Maybe life is just a wildly absurd experience that shines its light and meaning on us when we fully embrace the experience of being alive instead of trying to understand it scientifically and grow technologically.

Simplicity is the key of happiness. This man lives like that - and me too! I had a very so called “rich“ life for 38 years, but I understood: RICH IS NOT WHO OWNS EVERYTHING. RICH IS WHO DOESN'T NEED IT...! I collected companies, materialistic things, had stress and got sick. So I gave all up and changed my life to a simple one. Now, after 30 years, I live on a beautiful beach on a beautiful island in a warm country with warm hearted people, replanting my own food, getting eggs from my chickens, eating fishes from the sea, learned instruments to play autodidacticly, also painting, and live from playing saxophone in summertime some hours. I live mobile in a horse trailer, after travelling on a boat for many years, together with lots of stray cats and dogs and I'm very happy.

I love the idea of the video, and I've often wondered if such a lifestyle would be possible for myself. However, just as Jon found the changes of the city life overwhelmingly complicated, I also find the idea of radically changing my own life overwhelmingly complicated. At the end of the day, he tried to change but landed up going back to what he was familiar with.

Mr. Jandai is a professor of happiness because he rejects man-made complexities and replaces them with sincere simplicities. People need to listen to this man instead of the fake 'gurus' and 'podacasters'. Mr. Jandai deserves so much respect.

This is a very good one. The more we try hard, the lesser we gain. I'm actually satisfied with what I have now. on the other hand, the thought of caring my parents hit hard. I'm from the middle standard family so I'm so anxious about what if my mom and dad had a a serious illness all of a sudden.... As the hospitalization fees are expensive, I don't want them to suffer because I could not pay for it. This is the main reason why I'm studying so hard, and I believe I could afford a life in ease for them.

Try doing this in the US.
In most places, it's illegal to be disconnected from Utilities.
      (Water, Power, Septic..)
In most places, it's illegal to sell food from a garden, unless you have a health permit. And good luck getting one.
      Also enjoy:
Building codes, land permits, zoning restrictions...
      And much MUCH more.

Simple but really powerful and persuasive speech!! Succeed is not compare our life qualities with others but the fulfilment of ourselves. The ultimate goal of earning money is to get our lives easier. Sadly, the more money we get, the more stressful lives we got. We gradually defined by the materialistic world and loss ourself. @yuneedname Graduated with my engineering degree this past winter semester and found work. In my experience, an important lesson that I have learned with where I am is the importance of commitment. Pick a choice and stick with it because even if you make a wrong choice it is still better than being stuck between different choices and not ultimately going anywhere as a result. At least if you make a wrong choice but commit to it, you will then know that it wasn't for you and you can try another path. If you don't take that first step in the beginning and commit to a decision you will never make that self-discovery for yourself. Just some thoughts I have gained from my life experience over the past few years

OMG. In the western culture, all they teach you is, since I set foot in this country: you're a sinner. Everything is your fault. If you get angry, you're a bad person. If you get depressed, deal with it. Get a therapist, who can never solve anything, then take meds. They are the reason this country is broken. Corrupt people. They don't value people. They want robots to take over. The Western culture is actually pretty twisted.

When you live a lie since the day you are born that becames essencially the truth. To see things from a different perspective is hard but from the moment you start to question all the modern dogmas and social habits, consumism, etc you understand the simple truth. Study and learn what you like, respect all the living forms and the planet, bring a meaning to your work and smile everyday. Try to be the best yourself, not better than the neighbour. Never work only to buy stuff and enjoy and be gratefull for what you have now.

The line that hits me most is when Jon Jandai says:
"I feel like now is the most uncivilized era of humans in this earth" everything is hard to get. I think this line speaks to most people who are homeless, can't even afford to buy foods, clothes and other necessary things.
There is a real gap between people who benefits more from the resources of earth in which all human beings are entitled to benefit from it without interference. Inequality was born. And now, the more advanced one prevails.

    • bà chín em bà tám
      bà chín em bà tám 2 महीने पहले +1

If you're talking about the US homeless, you're wrong. Since they dont have to pay rent, US homeless have more money to buy food than many others who are still struggling to give most of their paycheck to the landlords so that they wont be kicked out and become homeless. These chicken, worri-ful folks are the ones that have it worst. But, they'll be free once they become homeless. Most people on Earth are homeless anyways, homeless at heart.
Many of you complaining but give no viable solutions. The fact that citizens pay heavy tax but still nothing got done shows me that the human-controlled "justice/redistribution" system you all seem to suggest/want just doesn't work at all. Unless you tell me to pray to your god for a better redistribution outcome 🤣🤣
You want free market, but you dont want to admit/accept the bottom/losing dealers of "free market", you want democracy and unlimited freedom but you're putting all the blames onto the system you voted for using democracy, just never on yourselves.. And then, when the "system" gets big, you give it a bad name "Chinese communism", when the "system" gets small, you blame it for not controlling big capitalists big tech, etc.. I mean, I dont know wtf Americans want anymore, whines and complaints I guess 😂😂

Thank You, this is a top talk and advice !!
I personally want to add this:
The most effective way to achieve a better society and world, is to respect the whole planets ecosystem flora and fauna, equally, as we would won't to be respected ourselves, we are not independent from it, even if we may acht as if we are, but nature can absolutely survive without us.
We should stop exploiting, abusing and killing other species, leave enough clean space for nature to auto-balance itself, with little to no human interference, where all fauna can emigrate, come and go, feed and travel as they should do naturally, otherwise we will never reach world peace and respect towards each other either.
We should end being so arrogantly dominant and invasive, on this or on any other planet !
Environmental, human and non-human animal rights, no matter where from in the entire universe, are all one concern !! 🤜🤛🏽⚡💫
